Frequently Asked Questions
No. It was designed from a surfer’s perspective, but it can also be used for yoga, mobility, controlled squats, foot and ankle awareness, core engagement and training for other board sports.
Choose the Original when you want the most room for pop-ups, cross-stepping, movement along the centerline and yoga practice.
Choose the Compact when you want a smaller footprint that is easier to move, use and store.
The Compact works well for balance and mobility training, but its shorter length does not provide enough room for most adults to perform full pop-ups or a complete yoga practice.
Yes. Beginners can start by placing the Balance Deck on a flat, stable surface with plenty of clear space around them.
Begin beside a wall, railing or sturdy piece of furniture that you can use for support.
Start by feeling the deck rock from side to side. As your balance and confidence improve, you can gradually explore a deeper range of motion and more advanced movements.
The Balance Deck was originally designed to practice walking the nose of a longboard.
You can also work on pop-ups, cross-steps, hang tens, 360s, low turns, stance changes and other movements you want to develop on a surfboard.
Beyond surfing, it is also useful for developing balance, strength and mobility for other board sports.
The Original Balance Deck also provides enough space for many yoga movements and sequences.
Use the Balance Deck on a flat, stable surface such as tile, wood or concrete.
It also works well on many rugs and exercise mats.
Always make sure the deck has adequate grip and clear space around it before use.
Yes. The Balance Deck is made from solid teak, a wood traditionally valued for its durability in outdoor and marine environments.
It can handle rain, humidity and normal outdoor exposure.
With prolonged exposure to sunlight and weather, natural teak will gradually develop a silver-grey patina. This does not necessarily mean the wood is damaged; many people actually prefer the weathered appearance.
Both Balance Deck sizes are rated to support users up to 500 lbs.
For normal cleaning, wipe the Balance Deck with a damp cloth and allow it to dry.
Avoid harsh chemicals and highly abrasive cleaning products.
If left outdoors, the teak will naturally weather toward a silver-grey color.
If you prefer the warmer appearance of fresh teak, the surface can be periodically cleaned and refinished using products and methods appropriate for outdoor teak furniture.
The Balance Deck may also be refinished or stained according to your personal preference.
